Case study

The problem

A prop house does not sell one item at a time. A stylist or production designer builds a list of dozens of pieces, for specific dates, for a specific production. Standard rental plugins treat that as many separate bookings, and cap each at a quantity of one.

What we built

  • A WooCommerce catalogue of 620+ props across nine categories: furniture, decor and arts, lighting, display and themed, kitchen and dining, rugs and textiles, electronics and appliances, wardrobe and styling, and specialty and seasonal.
  • The Add to Set List plugin we wrote. Each prop has an Add to Set List button, the header shows the running Set List count, and an Add all to cart step sends the full list to checkout.
  • A quantity fix: the rental plugin forces every item to a quantity of one, so we override it and restore the customer's chosen quantity through the cart and session.
  • A second plugin for checkout rules: production type, client or production house, pickup and return date and time, a tiered caution fee, and three-day billing for film and short-film productions. Those details are saved to the order and the emails.
  • Ongoing maintenance on the live shop: we found and fixed a Set List timing bug when several props were added quickly, and a VAT rule that was calculating 7.5% VAT as zero.

How an enquiry travels

  1. 1Customer browses a category and taps Add to Set List on each prop
  2. 2Reviews the Set List, adjusting quantities
  3. 3Adds the whole list to the cart in one step
  4. 4Checks out with production details, dates and caution fee calculated
Prop'ly home page header with the logo, a Set List counter, the cart total and category navigation from Furniture to Specialty and Seasonal
The header carries the Set List count next to the cart.

Deliverables

What we delivered

  1. An Add to Set List plugin: customers collect props as they browse, then send the whole list to the cart in one step

  2. Quantities above one, which the booking plugin does not allow by default

  3. Checkout fields for production type, client or production house, and pickup and return date and time

  4. A tiered caution fee and three-day billing for film and short-film productions
